BIO

Anastasia Grushenkova (b. 1991, Moscow) is a multidisciplinary artist. She explores ecological themes through the prism of personal, mystical experience, emphasizing the interdependence and cyclical nature of all living beings, inviting the viewer to reconsider their own place in the ecosystem and to remember that preserving nature and preserving humanity are one and the same.

Mediums: biodegradable objects, installation, video art, photography, painting. Lives and works in Moscow. She was previously a co-owner of a company specializing in separate waste collection and sorting.

ARTIST STATEMENT

The starting point for me was personal experience. As a child, watching a loved one suffer from an illness, I first became aware of the deep connection between the psychosomatic state and the natural world.

For centuries, Western science, religion, and philosophy have criticized archaic, animistic, and Eastern ways of knowing. This created the notion that matter and the natural world are dead and devoid of spiritual value, leaving humanity with the exclusive right to possess a soul. That is precisely why the core of my practice lies in concepts where the human being is not the center, but merely a part of a complex system.

I work with images and the natural processes of growth and decay, thereby emphasizing the interdependence and cyclical nature of all living beings. I am drawn to rituals, dreams, natural phenomena, and processes as sources of irrational knowledge. Through them, I try to materialize my own feeling for nature and offer the viewer an experience: to sense the surrounding world not as an object, but as a force beyond human perception.
